There is a shortage of women in a northern province of India.

According to a recent report by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), fifty million girls and women are missing from India’s population, as a result of systematic gender discrimination in that country.

In most countries in the world, there are approximately 105 female births for every 100 males.
And one of the country `s northern province Punjab, is very badly affected. There is a shortage of women.
The prosperity and medical advances in India have benefited this trend. Diagnostic teams with ultra sound scanners, to detect the sex of a foetus, advertise, with catch lines such as; “spend six thousand rupees now and save fifty thousand later”.
With the advance of medical science, now the teams of such doctors are able to visit the rural areas of that country, and offer their services to them. Where poverty forces the parents to take this option. Because a daughter means dowry and expenditure.

Every religion condemns such brutality, but cultures such as India, where religion and worship are a way of life, leads the way in this practice.
Asians living in this country are some of the consumers of these services. A while ago the BBC reported on certain GP practices in this country, who were party to such practice in this country. There are educated professionals who don’t see any harm in carrying out such murders. In this country it has been limited to abortions, after the sex has been confirmed. As a result now, a lot of NHS hospitals don’t disclose the sex of a foetus to parents of Asian origin.

When each religion gives women a high regard, they are mothers and home makers. Islam says that the paradise lies beneath the feet of your mother. Meaning that you won’t get there if you don’t have her blessings and approval. Hinduism has a goddess for prosperity, known as Laxmi. Then why this hostility?

Hinduism on one hand worships its female deities, and on the other, it kills them before birth, and burns them alive on the funeral pyres of their husbands.
In Islam, women and girls are killed in the name of honour, and stoned for adultery. Their testimony is not considered valid unless it is vouched by a man.

Prostitutes are mostly women, and are murdered and abused by sick and perverted men in the West.
So is there anywhere safe for a woman? And will the world one day respect and treat women as they should?
And will the Asian countries will ever be able to see them as a drain on resources?
I hope this happens in my lifetime.
