An Answer

I used to say, in jest of course, that I would love to have my obituary published in the daily Telegraph. I used to say hopedylly i will do something in my life , which will merit this! Alas I have done anything so far and time is running out!

But the blog Haymaker wrote came nearest to it.

Thank you to all of you who commented.

I am however miffed at being called “two faced and a closet Muslim/ pitying Indian…and so forth.

What haymaker quoted, which was part of a long email,(and NO it was not a flounce by proxy), was due to the following reason.

I am involved and do some judging for the Royal Commonwealth Society, so I had given the link to this site to a lot of people, who live abroad.

Quite a few of them commented that the “British people seemed very intolerant of immigrants in general and Muslims in particular”.

I looked in ,and I must admit lately there have been a constant stream of anger, and condemnation of both. May be it seems a lot because there are relatively fewer blogs on site, due to the usual summer lull. But never the less they seemed a lot and some comments were rather nasty.

I am as every one knows the biggest critic of what has gone wrong with multi culturism in this country. I wrote a column on a site called Asians in Media for about four years, and condemned the short comings in the strongest of terms. And had many death threats, the same for the radio, apart from taking part regularly, I complained to the higher authorities, when a radio station will bring guest who will say rude things and be racist to White people. They have changed their policy.

On this site I have learnt a lot, I learnt about religion,(Amicus thank you,you are right I do not subscribe to ANY religion), I admired the research some like Amhud did, I learnt about the Ahmadya people and a lots besides. I also heard the first hand account of how those who live in built up areas suffer reverse racism, and more so what does Middle Britain feels. And this reinforced my own beliefs that when people come to this country they should make the effort and not the other way round.

When I came to this west country town some 38 years ago, I met nothing but kindness, support and friendship, that encouraged me to give the same back.To bring my children up with the same ethos,to give them the freedom to choose their life, and partners. I stood firm by my daughter when she wanted to convert and marry in a Church, when my son fell in love and married a girl from a Jewish family. I believed it before, but being in England taught me tolerance, sense of justice and respecting others point of view.

The same happened when I joined this site, I learnt,I was befriended,I was invited into peoples homes, and they came to mine. I was given gardening advise and yes seeds and bulbs,(am sorry I can not return them they are flourishing!, hope mine are doing the same). I have never judged anyone, doubted anyone and took people to be whom they say they are.

I do believe that hate and anger begets the same, I know there are a lot of problems with immigration, but to call a whole race of people un savoury, nasty, and backwards is wrong and I find that hard to accept.

Besides I may be integrated, but I have not forgotten my origin,I am a brown skin British Asian, I was born elsewhere, the constant condemnation of “my sort’ gets hard at times. And that is why I said what I did.

Those of you who have said very kind things about me on that blog, thank you,and those who are not sure of me,well you are of course you are entitled to your opinion.
